XBOX ONE S Power Button Replace
Replacing the power button on an Xbox One S involves careful disassembly and handling of internal components. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
### Tools Needed:
- Torx T8 screwdriver
- Plastic pry tools
- Tweezers
- Replacement power button (compatible with Xbox One S)
- Isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs (for cleaning)
### Steps to Replace the Power Button:
#### 1. **Prepare the Work Area:**
- **Power Off:** Ensure the Xbox One S is completely powered off and disconnected from any power source.
- **Discharge Capacitors:** Press and hold the power button for a few seconds after unplugging to discharge any residual power.
#### 2. **Disassemble the Xbox One S:**
- **Remove the Case:** Use a Torx T8 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the outer case of the Xbox One S. There are screws under the rubber feet as well.
- **Separate the Case:** Carefully pry open the case using plastic pry tools. Start from one side and work your way around to avoid damaging the clips.
- **Open the Case:** Lift off the top cover of the Xbox One S to expose the internal components. Set aside the case and screws in a safe place.
#### 3. **Locate the Power Button:**
- **Identify the Button:** Locate the power button assembly on the front of the Xbox One S. It will be connected to the mainboard by a ribbon cable.
#### 4. **Remove the Old Power Button:**
- **Disconnect Ribbon Cable:** Gently lift the latch securing the ribbon cable connector and carefully disconnect the ribbon cable from the mainboard.
- **Remove Screws (if applicable):** Depending on the design, there may be screws securing the power button assembly to the front panel. Remove these screws if present.
- **Detach Button Assembly:** Carefully lift out the old power button assembly from the front panel of the Xbox One S.
#### 5. **Install the New Power Button:**
- **Align the Assembly:** Position the new power button assembly in place on the front panel, ensuring it fits snugly and aligns with any screw holes.
- **Secure with Screws (if applicable):** If there were screws holding the assembly in place, reinsert and tighten them.
- **Connect Ribbon Cable:** Carefully reconnect the ribbon cable to the mainboard connector. Ensure the latch is securely closed to hold the cable in place.
#### 6. **Reassemble the Xbox One S:**
- **Replace the Top Cover:** Carefully place the top cover back onto the Xbox One S, aligning it properly with the bottom case.
- **Screw in Place:** Insert and tighten all screws, including those under the rubber feet.
- **Test Button:** Before fully closing the case, test the new power button by briefly powering on the Xbox One S.
#### 7. **Final Checks:**
- **Functionality Test:** Power on the Xbox One S and verify that the new power button operates correctly. Ensure it responds to presses and powers the console on/off as expected.
- **Clean and Tidy:** Use isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs to clean any fingerprints or smudges from the surface of the Xbox One S.
### Safety Tips:
- **Static Electricity:** Handle internal components with care and ground yourself to avoid static discharge, which can damage sensitive electronics.
- **Patience:** Take your time during disassembly and assembly to avoid breaking any clips or damaging components.
By following these steps carefully, you can replace the power button on your Xbox One S and restore its functionality. If you’re uncomfortable with any step, consider seeking assistance from a professional technician or repair service.
